Biography: Leah Andreone
<< BackBorn in San Diego, CA, Leah Andreone began her singing career at the age of 8. By the time she turned 13, she was writing commercials and jingles for companies. Now, with two albums out under the RCA Records label, this singer-songwriter has found success before 30.Random Factoids
Discovered in the restaurant she was working in at the time when she overheard two RCA officials talking about finding some new talent. She persuaded her supervisor to let her leave to run to her apartment and grab a demo tape. She rushed back to the restaurant, and gave it to the two RCA agents. She was signed to the label within twenty-four hours.
Her debut album, Veiled ('96), was produced by Bob Marlett, as was Alchemy ('98), her newest album. However, the twist on this one was that Leah co-produced the album, as well as providing the songwriting and vocals. The album itself was recorded in four different studios: M&M Studio in LA, Ocean Way Studio, Trac Records, and Marlett's home studio. Cameos on Alchemy include the Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer, Chad Smith; and John Lowery, who has played guitar with Marilyn Manson, Two, and David Lee Roth.
Once again, as in Veiled, Leah manages to maintain the level of sexual energy in the music and lyrics of Alchemy. With lines like "Crawl on my tongue / Breathe your life in my lungs/ . . . Unlike the sun that sets / I'm gonna watch you rise" of "Swallow Me" and "Found a slide to ride / Hold my dress to my sides / I close my naked knees / Nice boys shouldn't see that / You're looking up at me / Look it's candy / Take the bait / And slide with me, Play with me" of "Dive In".
Then to the other extreme, you have the ballad of "Inconceivable" with the lyric "I can't imagine why / Your eyes don't make you smile / I can't imagine why / You don't see you're worth my while".
Influence of the dark side of showbusiness comes through in songs like "Bow Down", "Starstruck Bastard", "Fake", and "Private Affair". Being used, unrequited love, and justified lust, stories told in typical cryptic Leah lyrics.
- Leah spent many years learning classical piano before she moved to LA
- The Spanish part of "Sunny Day" means "I touched the sky and I came back" ("Toqué el cielo y me vuelvo")
- The font used in the Alchemy booklet is "Impact" (which I designed my site around before i had the CD- how odd)
